Position: Vice President of Operations, You Move Me
Location: Lenexa, KS (On-Site)
Salary Range: $125,000 - $150,000 base salary with Performance Bonus Opportunity
Position Overview The Vice President of Operations is a senior executive responsible for overseeing all operational aspects of the company, including over-the-road transportation, local operations, business coaching, and strategic operational initiatives. This role combines hands-on operational management with executive leadership, driving performance across multiple locations while ensuring efficient, safe, and profitable delivery of household goods and commercial shipments. The VP of Operations will lead, coach, and develop operational teams while maintaining regulatory compliance and achieving financial targets.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Executive Management
- Collaborate with C-suite executives to develop and execute strategic plans that drive business growth and operational excellence
- Lead operational initiatives across all company locations and service lines
- Act as liaison between executive leadership and operational managers, communicating policy changes and business objectives
- Develop long-term strategies for operational growth, efficiency, and market expansion
- Oversee budget planning and management to achieve financial objectives across all operational divisions
Over-The-Road Operations Management
- Direct all long-distance transportation operations including route planning, load optimization, and delivery scheduling
- Manage transportation costs, fuel efficiency programs, and equipment utilization across the fleet
- Ensure optimal fleet size, composition, and maintenance to meet customer demand
- Implement technology solutions for fleet tracking, communication, and operational efficiency
- Coordinate seamlessly between dispatch, customer service, warehouse, and field operations teams
Business Coaching & Leadership Development
- Lead, develop, and coach General Managers and operational leaders to drive performance and enhance leadership capabilities
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide strategic guidance to foster continuous improvement
- Plan and execute quarterly leadership summits and training programs
- Build high-performing, cohesive management teams across all locations
- Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and operational excellence
Multi-Location Operations Oversight
- Support management of daily operations across multiple locations, optimizing resources and processes
- Ensure consistency in operational standards, procedures, and customer service delivery
- Implement and monitor KPIs for on-time delivery, customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, and financial performance
- Coordinate activities across locations to maximize efficiency and resource utilization
Fleet & Equipment Management
- Oversee fleet maintenance schedules, equipment lifecycle planning, and capital expenditure decisions
- Manage vehicle specifications, procurement, and disposal strategies
- Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and state transportation regulations
- Maintain safety ratings, manage audits, and oversee regulatory reporting requirements
- Oversee commercial insurance requirements and claims management
Driver & Team Management
- Develop comprehensive driver training programs and safety protocols
- Ensure compliance with Hours of Service regulations and industry safety standards
- Foster positive driver relations and implement retention strategies
- Manage driver compensation structures and performance evaluation systems
Financial Management & Analysis
- Develop and manage operational budgets and P&L responsibility across all divisions
- Analyze route profitability, pricing strategies, and operational cost structures
- Negotiate contracts with vendors, service providers, and strategic partners
- Implement cost reduction initiatives while maintaining or improving service quality
- Provide financial analysis and reporting to executive leadership
Process Improvement & Technology
- Lead process improvement initiatives and operational efficiency projects
- Implement and optimize transportation management systems (TMS) and operational technology
- Analyze market trends, competitive landscape, and operational best practices
- Drive digital transformation and automation initiatives across operations
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Logistics, Business Administration, Operations Management, or related field
- Minimum 5-10 years of progressive experience in transportation/logistics management with 5+ years in senior leadership roles
- Extensive knowledge of DOT regulations, FMCSA requirements, and transportation industry standards
- Proven experience managing large fleets (100+ vehicles) and multi-location operations
- Strong P&L management experience with demonstrated financial acumen
- Experience in business coaching, leadership development, and team building
- Proven track record in operational efficiency, cost management, and strategic planning
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Business Administration or related field
- Experience specifically in household goods moving industry or related home services
- Professional certifications (CTP, CTL, or similar transportation/operations credentials)
- Multi-location or franchise operations experience

Travel Requirements

- Availability for extended hours during peak seasons and operational emergencies
Compensation & Benefits
