Job Description

Spring Education Group is a multi-brand education network of superior private school institutions spanning infant care through high school. The network (currently composed of approximately 220 schools) brings together some of the best private school programs in the country, with proven track records educating children through unique and carefully crafted curricula.

Location: L’Étoile French Immersion School
Hourly Rate: $25/hour
Schedule: On-call/substitute basis, with potential assignments during school hours and aftercare (3:00–6:00 PM)

L’Étoile is seeking enthusiastic and dependable substitute Assistant Teachers and Aftercare Teachers who enjoy working with children and collaborating with a dedicated school community. These roles are essential to supporting a safe, nurturing, and structured learning environment for our students from preschool through grade 5.

Key Responsibilities

Assistant Teacher Substitutes

• Supervise and support students in classroom settings.
• Assist lead teachers with instructional and logistical needs.
• Cover teacher breaks including lunch and recess duties.
• Engage students in structured activities during recess or aftercare.
• Step into the teacher’s role in their absence as needed.
• Report disciplinary concerns to the Head of School or Pedagogical Director.
• Communicate regularly with lead teachers and administrators.
• Attend staff meetings, orientations, and training sessions when requested.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Aftercare Teacher Substitutes (3:00–6:00 PM) 

• Provide a safe and structured environment for students during aftercare hours.
• Facilitate quiet homework time and assist students (elementary levels).
• Organize games and creative play activities.
• Maintain open communication with administrators and parents.
• Clean and sanitize shared spaces at the end of the day.
• Attend training sessions and monthly staff check-ins when required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate:

• Has experience working with children, preferably in a school setting.
• Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and independence.
• Possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Is fluent in English; French language skills are a plus.
• Is open to learning and applying positive behavioral management strategies.
• Is reliable and punctual.
• Has basic computer skills (Google Drive, Docs, and Sheets a plus).

Additional Requirements

• Onsite presence at L’Étoile French Immersion School is required.
• Assistant Teachers must hold and maintain:
  • Current enrollment in the Central Background Registry (OR Office of Child Care)
  • Valid Food Handler card
  • CPR/First Aid certification
