Recreation Aid (Lifeguard) Nf-01

This position is located at the Fort Leavenworth Aquatics Program. This announcement may be used to fill additional vacancies throughout the program. U.S. citizens and non-U.S. nationals who have resided in the U.S. or U.S. territory for three (3) or more continuous years immediately preceding the start of federal affiliation.

Duties

  • Serves as a lifeguard for indoor and outdoor pools and works under the direction of the Installation Aquatics Program Manager. Employs safety rules for the protection of the pool guests.
  • Responsible for lifeguarding guests in attendance at the assigned aquatics facility. Provides maximum pool area surveillance and responds to emergencies; rescues pool patrons and administers first aid as required.
  • Assists in maintaining pool, and area clean and free from any hazards. Performs periodic water tests and reports results to the pool leader on duty.
  • Provides information to swimmers regarding safety/health/admission rules and procedures. Tactfully warns patrons who repeatedly disregard safety rules, and follows facility standard operating procedures for disciplinary actions.
  • Assists in coaching or preparing the competitive and non-competitive swimming programs as required. Maintains daily logs, reports and records as required. Other duties as assigned.

  • Appointment subject to favorable suitability determination.
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2 to include a childcare tier 1 background investigation.
  • Must have current health assessment which documents good physical health, and free from communicable disease IAW current army policy.
  • Must be able to lift 40 Ibs. and complete a physical.
  • Continuous exposure to sun and prolonged periods of high temperature and humidity. In case of exposure to infectious disease, incumbent is required to obtain the hepatitis b vaccination series within a 24-hour period.
  • Lifeguards must have good vision (corrected vision if necessary) while on duty to effectively recognize all emergencies, incidents and rule breaking.
  • Incumbent is required to follow environmental safeguards and wear personal protective equipment. May be assigned to irregular duties or when needed for special recreational events and related requirements.
  • Fifteen (15) year old lifeguards must comply with the restriction of the DOL child labor law (Jan 17, 2006).
  • Lifeguards will participate in any required training (on-the-job training emergency rescue drills, emergency action plan simulations).
  • All required certifications must be kept current.
  • Work hours may involve weekend, weekdays, holidays and night duty.
  • Must be willing to accept a flexible appointment.

Qualifications

Possesses and maintains the following certifications:

  • Lifeguarding and first aid (American Red Cross or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. star guard, YMCA, or ELLIS); American Red Cross "cardio-pulmonary resuscitation for the professional; CPR for the professional rescuer/AED or equivalent (American Heart Association CPR/AED); first aid.

PCS costs: Payment permanent change of station (PCS) costs are not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the government's interest.

Pay-band (NF or CY) allowances and differentials: This is a pay-banded position.

Sunday premium pay may be authorized by the garrison commander. If authorized, only regular (full-time, part-time, limited tenure and seasonal) employees may be paid Sunday premium pay. When authorized, Sunday premium will be paid at the rate of 25% of the basic rate for all hours of non-overtime, when any part of the scheduled tour of duty is performed on Sunday (to a maximum of 8 hours per Sunday).

Night differential may be authorized by the garrison commander. When authorized, night differential will be paid at the rate of 10% basic rate for hours of non-overtime work performed between 1800-0600.

Incentives and bonuses: Incentives will not be paid.

Non-foreign overseas allowances: Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
