Recreation Aid (Lifeguard) NF-01

This position is located at Fort Detrick Community Recreation Division (Indoor/Outdoor pools), Maryland. To better expedite the hiring process, we recommend including full contact information (name, address, phone number, email, etc.) for professional and personal references on your resume.

This job is open to the public. U.S. Citizens and Non-U.S. Nationals who have resided in the U.S. or U.S. Territory for three (3) or more continuous years immediately preceding the start of Federal affiliation.

Duties

  • Serves as a lifeguard for indoor and outdoor pools and works under the direction of the Installation Aquatics Program Manager.
  • Responsible for lifeguarding guests in attendance at the assigned aquatics facility.
  • Provides maximum pool area surveillance and responds to emergencies; rescues pool patrons and administers first aid as required.
  • Assists in maintaining pool, and area clean and free from any hazards.
  • Employs safety rules for the protection of the pool guests. Maintains daily logs, reports and records as required.

  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2 to include a Tier 1 background investigation.
  • Continuous exposure to sun and prolonged periods of high temperature and humidity.
  • Lifeguards must have good vision (corrected vision if necessary) while on duty to effectively recognize all emergencies, incidents and rule breaking.
  • Incumbent is required to follow environmental safeguards and wear personal protective equipment.
  • May be assigned to irregular duties or when needed for special recreational events and related requirements. Work hours may involve weekend, weekdays, holidays and night duty.
  • Fifteen (15) year old lifeguards must comply with the restriction of the DOL Child Labors Law (Jan 17, 2006).
  • The incumbent may be subject to additional background checks if required to have regular and recurring contact with children.
  • All required certifications must be kept current.
  • 1200-1900(M-F) (1200-1900 Weekends)

Qualifications

Qualification requirements: Possesses and maintains OR in the process of obtaining the following certifications: 1. Lifeguarding and First Aid (American Red Cross or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Star Guard, YMCA, or ELLIS). 2. American Red Cross "Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional" CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED or equivalent (American Heart Association CPR/AED). 3. First Aid. Note to applicants: If you are in the process of obtaining the required certification, you must be in possession of the certification 30 Days after your on-boarding date. These certifications must be reflected on your resume and can be uploaded at the time of application to be considered eligible for this position.

This job does not have an education qualification requirement.

PCS Costs: Payment Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest.

Pay-Band (NF or CY) Allowances and Differentials: This is a pay-banded position. Sunday premium pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. If authorized, only regular (full-time, part-time, limited tenure and seasonal) employees may be paid Sunday premium pay. When authorized, Sunday premium will be paid at the rate of 25% of the basic rate for all hours of non-overtime, when any part of the scheduled tour of duty is performed on Sunday (to a maximum of 8 hours per Sunday). Night differential may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. When authorized, night differential will be paid at the rate of 10% basic rate for hours of non-overtime work performed between 1800-0600.

Incentives and Bonuses: Incentives will not be paid. Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
